Kindness Matters

Kindness really matters.  It is the little things that make a huge difference each and every day.

You never know what a hug can do for someone.. a phone call to check up on someone. That person may be facing terminal cancer, or severe depression, you see, and that day, they may have thought of ending their life.  I have seen how kindness, acts of extreme love can change a bad day into a great one for someone.

It takes courage to step out and be kind to people you may not know, but I have seen and found out that these are the greatest of all acts where coupled with intentional love and prayer to really make a difference in this world and every day, you CAN be someone’s greatest encourager, lifter of their spirits, friend….and blessing!

We Are Many

I wanted to start this as an open letter to the church with the title "We are Many" but then it dawned on me that it's not just the church that needs to hear it. To that regard, most people don't even care about open letters anymore and write them off as spam or some sort of bitter diatribe about that persons most recent offense. I'm torn on whether or not I still want to state this as an open letter, but for the time being, we'll just leave it open (yes I crack myself up lol) and address the church.

Greetings from the midst of COVID-19 crisis.  I truly pray you are safe, healthy and well-stocked with toilet paper and food.  I realize this is a time of great distress for many as their well-oiled schedules have been completely thrown askew.  I do sincerely hope that I have information you may find to be a blessing during this weird time we are experiencing.  Thank you Michelle, again, for the honor of guest posting on Mom’s Open Book this month.

love vs like
Love is a funny thing. I know you’ve read hundreds of posts about love, but bear with me.

I teach a high school philosophy class (homeschool co-op) and one of our topics of conversation this week was “how is the experience of loving someone is different and similar to liking someone?” As I’m sure you can imagine this sparked quite a conversation amongst my homeschoolers. I directed them toward thinking about family versus friends, not so much
boyfriend/girlfriend.

One of my students said, “well I guess if you really love someone you’re more willing to sacrifice something for them”. That was the exact answer I was looking for someone to give. Our conversation went on and it was a good class, but it left me with pondering these thoughts for the rest of the week. That answer wasn’t super profound, most adults I know would say the same thing. So why did this cause me to ponder for several more days? I’ll let you into my thoughts for awhile. If this ride gets scary, feel free to disembark.

I Am A Perfect Mother

When I was a little girl, I just knew I was going to be the perfect mother. I’d have the
perfect handsome husband and live in a perfect house with perfect children that everyone
doted on. People would dream to be just like us because, well, because we’d be so perfect.

Yep, those were dreams of a little girl.  This little girl would grow up to marry her handsome husband, but he is far from perfect.  She has three children, two boys and a girl, in that order.  They are not perfect, although I think they’re getting closer to it all the time, now that they don’t live with this perfect mother. I don’t know of anyone that dreams of being us that know us. (smile)
