I Am A Perfect Mother

When I was a little girl, I just knew I was going to be the perfect mother. I’d have the
perfect handsome husband and live in a perfect house with perfect children that everyone
doted on. People would dream to be just like us because, well, because we’d be so perfect.

Yep, those were dreams of a little girl.  This little girl would grow up to marry her handsome husband, but he is far from perfect.  She has three children, two boys and a girl, in that order.  They are not perfect, although I think they’re getting closer to it all the time, now that they don’t live with this perfect mother. I don’t know of anyone that dreams of being us that know us. (smile)

As I sit here on this first day of the love month of February, drinking my coffee and relaxing in my recliner as though I have no cares in the world, I’m reminded that the Bible has a passage that talks about.  Matter of fact, it’s actually talking about being a person of love. The passage I just read is this, 1 Corinthians 13:4-7.  It says:

“4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.”

Ha!  Impossible!!  No one can be all of that.  Based on this it looks like not one could ever be a perfect mother, or person.  I will beg to differ.

You see, that very last verse? Verse 7.  “Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.”  This is how I am perfect and have the perfect family with the perfect spouse and we live in a perfect house.  How is that you might be asking.  Well let’s see.

I have never given up on my family.  I have never lost my faith in them.  Those who know me know that I am hopeful in every situation of life.  I just cannot give up hope!  And that last part, I know I can do that because here I am, living and breathing and taking up space in this recliner.

Yes, I am perfect!  All those things, patience, kindness, not irritable, not keeping score, not rude, not jealous or boastful or proud, does not demand my own way, those things, I keep trying.  I never give up hope that I will achieve all these things.  And when I don’t have a great day, I have hope that tomorrow is going to be a better one.  Because of love; I will never give up, never lose faith, I’ll always be hopeful and endure through anything!!

So, keep trying, dear heart!!  So you don’t feel perfect?  Keep working on it.  Keep trying.  Never give up!  Pray and renew your strength through God’s word.  Take a break and drink your coffee while it’s hot.  You can do this because you are Perfect when you’re full of the Love of Christ.
