Hey friends! Can you believe that we are midway through September and that October is right around the corner. Next week Saturday we are going to be throwing a birthday party for Joe. He will be five. I'm struggling with my emotions on this. I don't want to be the weepy mom that cries each year that her kids get older, but I also just want to keep him little and all mine for just a little longer.

But I digress, one of my passions in life is reading. Not only does reading foster learning, but I love that it opens up the door to broader thinking and imagination. Reading inspires me, teaches me and helps me to see other peoples perspectives. My one big goal in homeschooling Joe is that I can encourage an environment and love of reading. They say reading is fundamental and I couldn't agree more. It opens up a whole new world for you and teaches you to think for yourself.

Each month I am going to create a book tracker for you to use. You can grab October's here. Have fun with it. The idea is to read at least one picture book or chapter with your kids each day. There are extra pumpkins. If you fill in all of the that is a little over one picture book or chapter a day. I encourage you to use this as motivation, but to keep it fun. My intention with sharing a tracker is not to make it stressful for you.

Book #1 - Duck & Goose Find A Pumpkin by Tad Hills
This is one of Joe's favorite books still. It is a super short read, but it has great pictures and he loves to talk about the things that are going on in the pictures. It is also great for site word recognition and empowering your little people to read.
Book #2 - Five Little Pumpkins by Tiger Tales
This is another favorite of Joe's and he can actually quote it verbatim still. This is a great number book and is very catchy.

There are numerous versions of this book, so definitely check them out and find the one that suits you.
Book #3 - Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert
First, I just want to say that I love the color and illustrations in this book. The story is super cute. You follow a leaf on it's journey of where the wind takes it. This is on of my personal favorites.

Interesting fact I learned this year. The author Lois Ehlert was from Wisconsin.
Book #4 - Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf by Lois Ehlert
Again, the illustrations and colors in this book are just beautiful. It appeals to the scrapbooker in me. She's been caged too long and likes to rattle the cages when I see books like this one.

The book is about a child telling the story about how the tree he loves came to be where it is. It is cute and educational, which is one of the things that I love about Lois Ehlert's books.

Book #5 - The Four Seasons an Usbourne Musical Book
This book is cute and it appeals to multiple senses. It has beautiful illustrations representing each of the four seasons and it plays parts of Vivaldi's Four Seasons when you press the button.

There is nothing I enjoy more (and Joe too) than a book that has multiple senses at play. It's even a bonus for me that it plays classical music. It is something that I do not get to play and enjoy as much of in this house.

Book #6 - Pop Up Seasons by Anna Milbourne
In this book you get to enjoy the seasons with fun pop ups. Each page shows beautiful illustrations of all the seasons and include the things happening in each of the seasons. Birds nesting in the spring. Bees buzzing in the summer. Colorful leave in the fall and of course snow in the winter. The book wraps up with a pop up tree that represents each of the four seasons.

I don't know about your kids, but Joe loves pop up books. They are always a must have in our house.
Book #7 - Seasons by Usbourne
Can I just say that I also love the illustrations in this book as well. Lol. Pictures are very important to me. It is true that a picture can speak a thousand words. I love how each illustration is thoughtfully done to enhance the information given.

This book is an easy read, but is great for talking to your little people about nature and how each animal works in each of the seasons.

Book #8 - Little Blue Truck's Halloween
Here is another one of Joe's favorites. He loves all of the Little Blue Truck books. He also loves Halloween, so this is a win/win book.
Little Blue Truck is on his way to a party and picks up each of his costumed friends on the way. It is a super cute and quick read for your little people.
Book #9 - Good Bye Summer, Hello Autumn by Kenard Pak
All the books in this series are some of my favorites. Of course, per my usual taste, the illustrations are beautiful and amazing. But I also love the writing and the structure of these books. In this book, they say good-bye to all things summer and hello to all things autumn. It follows the same structure for each of the books. I like them because it introduces the idea of transition to our little people with an idea that they can understand. Goodbye & Hello.
Book #10 - Counting On Fall by Lizann Flatt
Do you love books that you can read and they teach multiple things? Me too!! This book is all about fall and how we can see numbers, patterns and shapes in everything around us. It encourages kids to observe the things around them. I just love the whole concept of this book and what it teaches our kids.
